Precept 2026/2027

Published: 25 March 2026

The Parish Council understands that residents may have concerns regarding the recent increase in the precept and would like to provide some clarification.

In January 2023, the Council made a conscious and responsible decision to reduce the precept by 50%, from £95,000 to £50,000, for the 2023/2024 financial year. This reflected a reduction in demand for expenditure at the time, as well as the anticipation of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)temporary funds. In line with regulations, the Council cannot raise more funds than are required. It was agreed that the precept would be readjusted to similar or previous levels if required.

As circumstances have now progressed, the Council resolved at a full Council meeting held in January, which members of the public were welcome to attend, to reinstate the precept to its previous level of £95,000 for the 2026/2027 financial year. This equates to an increase of £22.10 per year for a Band D property. This represents a return to earlier levels rather than a new or additional increase.

Importantly, the precept has not been raised beyond what it would have been had it not been reduced, and no allowance has been made for inflation over recent years.

Residents were informed of the Council’s intention to restore the precept in February through the Parish Magazine. This decision ensures the Council can continue to meet its responsibilities, plan effectively, and deliver services for the community.

In addition, the Council is preparing to undertake several important projects and remains committed to supporting local Collingham and Linton groups through grants. These initiatives require appropriate funding to benefit the wider parish.

The approved budget for 2026/2027 can be found on the Finance page.

The Council remains committed to transparency and to acting in the best interests of the parish. We appreciate residents’ understanding as we continue to support and improve our community.
