Parish Council Update
The Parish Council is pleased to share the latest news and updates with residents across Collingham and Linton.
Working for Our Community
The Parish Council is currently operating with four councillors and a new part-time Clerk, who is working hard to bring arrangements up to date, improve processes and address a backlog of outstanding matters. We appreciate residents’ patience and understanding while we work through these issues and ensure our limited resources are focused on matters that are the Parish Council’s responsibility.
The Parish Council would like to thank Councillors Locke-Edmunds and Johnson for their valuable contributions and commitment during their time on the Council. We fully understand that personal commitments require their attention and are grateful for the time and dedication they have given to supporting the work of the Parish Council.
The Parish Council remains committed to being a voice for the community, listening to residents and supporting local priorities. However, with a small number of councillors and a part-time Clerk, it is important that enquiries are directed to the correct organisation wherever possible.
Many issues, including highways, potholes, speeding, bins, fly-tipping, graffiti, trees, waste collections, grass cutting and other local authority services, are managed by Leeds City Council. Residents are encouraged to visit our Understanding Local Responsibilities and Services page, which explains which organisation is responsible for different services and provides direct links to the relevant reporting pages for Leeds City Council and other agencies.
The Parish Council is always happy to assist with matters within its remit. When reporting issues relating to Parish Council land or assets, please provide as much detail as possible, including the location, photographs and, where possible, a what3words reference or map pin. This will help us respond more efficiently.
Councillor Vacancies – Could You Help?
The Parish Council currently has councillor vacancies and would welcome residents who are interested in getting involved and helping shape the future of our community.
Being a Parish Councillor is an opportunity to represent local views, support community projects and contribute to decisions affecting the villages. No previous experience is required, and support is available.
The Parish Council will also be holding a coffee morning to provide residents with an opportunity to find out more about the role and ask questions. Further details will be shared shortly. If you would like to find out more, please contact the Clerk.
Beck Wood Update
The Parish Council continues to work on improving the management and future arrangements for Beck Wood. A Management Plan is being developed to support future decisions around maintenance, safety, facilities and improvements.
Following the theft of the lifebuoy and replacement rope, the Clerk is exploring a tamper-proof solution. New signage has also been agreed, including a QR code directing visitors to information on the Parish Council website, including water quality updates and a way to report concerns.
The Clerk is also investigating options for a feeder pillar to allow for future improvements, such as an electric gate.
The Parish Council welcomed the recent attendance of Parking Enforcement Officers at Beck Wood, which was a positive step in addressing concerns that have been raised. Leeds City Council has confirmed that it has requested an increase in patrols and enforcement activity in the area. The Parish Council will continue to work closely with Leeds City Council and the Neighbourhood Policing Team to monitor the situation.
It has also been agreed to arrange a PACT (Police and Communities Together) meeting in the area, providing residents with an opportunity to raise concerns and discuss local issues directly with representatives. Details will be publicised once a date has been confirmed.
Two new litter bins have been installed at Beck Wood, replacing the eight bins previously emptied by Leeds City Council. The new bins will be emptied every Friday. Residents are reminded that if a bin is full, please take rubbish home with you rather than leaving it beside the bin.
Millbeck Green Footpath Update
Residents will be aware of the ongoing issue affecting the Millbeck Green footpath, where a hole developed in 2025 resulting in restricted public access.
The Parish Council continues to prioritise this matter and is working regularly to progress the necessary repairs. Following previous investigations and discussions with technical advisers, further work is required to prepare the relevant documentation and consider the available options.
Unfortunately, the engineer previously expected to assist with the tender process is no longer able to undertake this work, resulting in some delay. The Parish Council is now reviewing the next steps to ensure the correct processes are followed and that any future works are properly planned and delivered.
The Council understands residents’ concerns and remains committed to progressing this matter as soon as possible.
Local Plan Reminder
Residents are reminded that Leeds City Council’s Local Plan continues to shape future development across the area, including housing, infrastructure and environmental considerations.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take part in consultations where possible. The deadline for the current consultation is 5 August 2026. Further information can be found on the Leeds City Council website.
